Price is right with unstoppable strike, but Dawdon Welfare Park exit FA Sunday Cup

Have your say

Dawdon Welfare Park saw their FA Sunday Cup dreams dashed yesterday.

The Chilla Pizza Peterlee & District Sunday League champions went down 2-1 to Swinburne Maddison Durham Sunday League high-fliers Newton Aycliffe Locomotion at Seaham Red Star in the first round of the prestigious national competition.

After a scrappy start, Locomotion took the lead after 15 minutes through Corey Nicholson.

Dawdon then dictated much of the rest of the first half without creating much, but they equalised on 35 minutes, courtesy of an unstoppable free-kick from Craig Price .

A change of game plan saw Locomotion take command in the second half, looking dangerous going forward.

They bagged the winner 10 minutes from time as Liam Cooper slipped Nicholson through to score, sealing a place in today’s draw.
