SOUTH Hetton Cricket Club stayed in the First Division promotion hunt thanks to an emphatic 8-1 rout of Seaham Phoenix.
Matthew Johnson was the hero for the cricketers, striking five times, while Alan Curl netted a brace. Mark Hartley also struck, while Dean Andrews fired Phoenix’s consolation goal.
David Laing starred for Phoenix.
Tony Rudd’s goal was not enough for basement outfit Peterlee Central Club, who succumbed to a 3-1 defeat to Hetton Social.
Dan Robson, Neil Stevenson and sub Ben Wilson struck for Hetton, whose star man was Carlton Hughes.
Robert Hutchinson stood out for Central.
The third and final match to get the go-ahead last weekend was in Division Two.
Seaham Marlborough climbed to fourth place after a comfortable 4-0 derby win over New Seaham Mallard.
