Peterlee Sunday League: Cricketers win thriller to move top

SOUTH Hetton Cricket Club moved top of the First Division by edging home 3-2 in a thriller against Easington Southside.

Matthew Johnson, Damien Hope and Graham Hall steered the cricketers home, with Antony Longstaff and Paul Elliott on target for Southside.

Easington Welfare climbed two places up to second after hammering Hetton Social 7-0.

Josh Lincoln bagged a hat-trick, backed by substitute Michael Kennedy (2), Ian Rickaby and Joe Taboun.

Acre Rigg SC moved away from the bottom three in Division Two when they won a close encounter 3-2 against Seaham Marlborough.

Scott Jackson (2) and Michael Laverick did the damage, while Wes Smith was on target twice for Marlborough.

A brilliant Paul Wilkinson hat-trick, supported by two goals apiece from Adam Setterfield and sub Brian Harrison, helped Trimdon Colliery Albion stretch their lead at the top of the table when they beat Haswell Oddfellows Arms 9-3.

Aaron Brown and Adam Croft also netted, with Dave Thirkell, Gareth Milburn and Carl Stephenson replying.

Peterlee Hearts moved up two places to second when they edged a 2-1 victory over Easington Half Moon, courtesy of Christian Cole and Michael Coates, with Neil Moffat replying.

New Seaham Conservative Club defeated Hetton Fox and Hounds 3-1, thanks to two-goal Jonathan Roberts and Mark Ewart.

Two of the top three Premier Division clubs swapped places as two goals from Gary McAndrew saw Easington CIU inflict only the second league defeat upon Wingate, winning 2-0.

Leaders Horden CW Supporters Club were held to a 2-2 draw by Murton Park View, who had Andrew Upperton and top scorer Stephen Turner on target. Kristopher Hope and Shaun Atherton struck for Supporters.

In the Tommy Burrell Memorial Cup, Peterlee Helford United reached double figures when they defeated Second Division outfit Peterlee Oaklands 10-0 in round three.

Gary Shaw and Michael Cain both notched hat-tricks, while Stephen Hockaday and substitute Anthony Cook added two goals apiece.

Seaham The George pipped neighbours Seaham Island Club 2-1 in a second round tie, with Paul Henderson and Thomas Hopkirk netting. Andrew Beer hit Island’s consolation.

In the First Division League Cup, Anthony Cowie’s strike was not enough for Peterlee Central Club, who were thumped 7-1 by Seaham Phoenix.

Ryan Martin (3), Steve Newby, Dean Andrews, David Laing and Andrew Wallace sparked Phoenix.

Shotton Builders Warehouse progressed in the Second Division League Cup, defeating New Seaham Mallard 4-1 thanks to a brace from substitute John Brown plus further goals from Liam Atchison and Tom Wilson, with Adam Gippert responding.

Thornley Harry’s Bar convincingly outgunned Murton New Hesledon 8-1 in the Cyril Dunn Memorial Cup, with Kyle Middleton’s hat-trick leading the way.

Westgarth, Summerson, Dave and Shaun Jackson and sub Thubron all notched.

Thomas Bott (2) and Carl Price earned Easington HMS Victory a 2-1 success against FC Easington in a hard-fought John & Pat McManus Memorial Cup tie.

Scott Danks and substitute Brett Carr were both on target for Shotton Comrades when they beat Wear Valley Sunday League outfit West Auckland The Club 2-1 in the Heart Foundation Trophy.
