Over-40s League: Steels pegged back twice by defiant Hebburn

Steels King Bros had to settle for a point despite twice leading in their Premier Division clash away to Hebburn Town.

In a tight 2-2 draw, Steels scored first through Brett Cummings, but Tommy Atkinson equalised. A similar pattern followed in the second half as Trevor Laidler scored for Steels and Terry Smith replied for Hebburn, who had chances to win it late on.

Lenny Houghton stood out for Steels, with Paul Donaghy best for Hebburn.

Ryhope Foresters picked up their first point in a 0-0 draw with Penshaw Catholic Club, but stay bottom of the table, while Red House WMC climbed to fifth by beating Wallsend Community 4-2.

Wearmouth CW top Division One after a 5-1 defeat of Dubmire, their third win out of three so far. Grindon Broadway lost 2-0 to Washington Sandpiper, who sit fifth, just behind Easington CIU, who have a game in hand.

Seaham and Durham Stonebridge are joint top in Division Two, with three wins apiece.

Seaham edged a 3-2 win at Horden Sportsmans, while Hylton CW secured a first victory, 4-1 against North Shields Pineapple.

Blue House boast the only 100 per cent record in Division Three after beating The Philadelphia 4-2. Oddies drew 2-2 with Willow Pond, while Rolls-Royce edged home 2-1 against Woodhorn Lane and Houghton Cricket bagged their first success, 3-0 against Boldon Colliery Tavern.

Ivy Legends lost their perfect Fourth Division record, losing 4-0 at new leaders Newcastle East End, while Wearmouth Old Boys drew 2-2 at Hartlepool Tech, rallying from two down, with a 25-yard chip and a last-gasp leveller making the point.

Colonel Prior lost 3-0 at Durham County Strollers.
