Ryhope CW struck four times at home to Thornaby, but still went down to a 6-4 defeat in Division Two.

Gary Mitchell (3), Theo Furness, Kevin Edwards and an own goal accounted for the visitors’ six, with Conor Winter firing a hat-trick in vain for the hosts, backed by a Nathan O’Neill strike.

Gary Pearson’s men will look to bounce back when table-toppers Team Northumbria visit tomorrow.

Easington Colliery succumbed 2-0 to Northallerton, whose goals were scored in the opening 17 minutes by Colin Anderson, from a free-kick, and Stuart Owen (penalty).

Birtley Town did not know what had hit them when they were overwhelmed by a nine-goal blitz from leaders Team Northumbria.
