Washington slipped back to fourth place in the Ebac Northern League First Division when there were wins for Morpeth Town and Guisborough Town last night.
Morpeth defeated Dunston UTS 3-0 and remain second, now only a couple of points behind leaders Shildon with as many games in hand.
Michael Chilton bagged a brace and James Novak also struck when all three goals came in the opening 45 minutes.
Guisborough Town are third and they also won by a 3-0 margin at home to Jarrow Roofing. Danny Earl (2) and Connor Smith were the matchwinners.
Ironically, the only other game also finished in a 3-0 result and it was Ashington who took the points at Newcastle Benfield courtesy of Andrew Johnson, Matthew Grieve and Michael King.
Three ties were played in the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup. Birtley Town went out to Darlington RA, who clinched a 2-0 victory with second-half strikes by Dean Irvine (pen) and Kerry Hedley.
Impressive Brandon United hit Ryton and Crawcrook Albion for six as the goals flowed from hat-trick hero James Ellis, Dean Thexton, Vinny Gash and Kyle Wren. Sam Moore and Chris Hoult notched Ryton’s replies.
Crook Town edged Thornaby 3-2 following extra time at the Millfield Ground. Phil Caley, with his sixth goal in as many games, Tito Davison and Josh Bynoe struck for Crook, while Nathan Steel scored both goals for Thornaby who had Matthew Robinson and Daniel Lofts sent off.
