Northern League: Six of the best takes Chester-le-Street up to second place

Chester-le-Street moved into second place in Division Two of the Ebac Northern League when they hit Northallerton for six last night.

No fewer than seven of the goals in an amazing 6-2 victory were scored in the opening 29 minutes, with man-of-the-match Scott Heslop, later to take his tally to five, scoring four times, with Dan Hepplewhite the other marksman.

In the frenetic opening, Dan McLachlan and Aaron Ramsbottom replied for the visitors.

South Shields are third, level with leaders Team Northumbria and the Cestrians.

A crowd of 279 at Mariners Park watched them edge Heaton Stannington 2-1 courtesy of Wayne Phillips and Warren Byrne.

Easington Colliery drew 1-1 at Billingham Town, who led courtesy of Craig Lines before Jordan Thompson restored parity before the the interval.

Birtley Town have taken only one point out of 12 following a 4-1 defeat at Darlington RA, who were three goals up thanks to Harvey Saunders, Kelly Hedley and Jim Wilson.

Damon Ellis pulled a goal back for Birtley, but John Ward made it four and worse was to follow for the visitors when they had Ellis sent off just before the end.
