South Shields start favourites to maintain pole position in Division Two by defeating second-bottom Esh Winning tomorrow, but Chester-le-Street will be waiting in the wings should the Mariners slip up.

The Cestrians, who with one loss, have suffered fewer defeats than any other side, are two points adrift of Shields with a game in hand.

Manager Colin Wake will have a near full squad at his disposal, with the only absentee being Craig Marron.

Ryhope CW have steadily moved up the table to third and, for their fixture at Alnwick Town, manager Gary Pearson will be hoping for more of the same from recent signing Damien Stevens, who has scored four goals in three games.

Jack Pounder, meanwhile, has moved to First Division Sunderland RCA and other absentees tomorrow include Chris Rookes, Martin Metcalfe and Craig Hughes.

In addition, there are fitness concerns for Gary Pearson concerning Stephen Francis and Richard Hodgson.

Sixth-placed Easington Colliery go to Ryton and Crawcrook Albion minus David Laight, Dale Spence, Richie Carr, Michael Watson and Liam Hodson. Fortunately, Peter Jones, Ian Redman and Jordan Thompson can plan.

H Heaton Stannington celebrate their 80th anniversary playing at Grounsell Park when Hebburn Town provide the opposition.

It was on October 12, 1935, that the ground was opened and Heaton defeated Swan Hunters 5-1.

Tomorrow many former players are expected to join in the celebrations.
