SEAHAM Red Star rekindled their promotion drive in Ebac Northern League Division Two with an excellent performance at third-top Heaton Stannington, where both teams were reduced to 10 men.
Red Star were awarded a 43rd-minute penalty when Connor Winter was brought down by home captain Joe Weir, who was red-carded before Adam Johnston clinically converted the spot-kick.
Heaton equalised in similar circumstances when David Short fouled Jonathan Wright and he too was dismissed.
Leading scorer Wright gave goalkeeper Shaun Newbrook no chance with the resulting penalty.
With five minutes remaining, Dean Nicholson hit the winner for Seaham, who remain fifth, only a point behind Jarrow Roofing, who enjoyed a six-goal romp at Stokesley SC courtesy of Paul Gardner (2), Andy Appleby, Stephen Young, Stuart Nicholson (pen) and Jamie Marshall.
Greg Peel (2) and Stuart Brown replied for the hosts in their 6-3 defeat.
North Shields stayed out in front following a six-goal blast of Brandon United. Top scorer Gareth Bainbridge bagged a brace, with Dean Holmes, Dean Walker, Adam Scope and Joe Elliott also beating goalkeeper Chris Sawyer.
West Allotment Celtic are second after winning a seven-goal thriller at Tow Law Town when Paul Stoneman, David Dormand, Stephen Little and Michael Bell netted. Dan Wilson, Scott Thompson and Lewis Harrison struck for the Lawyers.
Washington’s resurgence was maintained at the expense of Alnwick Town and after being bottom following 10 games, the Newtowners are now within two points of mid-table.
Their latest success came at Alnwick Town, with goals by Mark Davison, Chris Winn, Paul Kane and James Fairley.
Dominic Schiaveipa had levelled at 1-1 but Alnwick’s hopes plummeted when they had Kevin Elliott sent off just before the interval.
