ABBEY Joice scored a hat-trick as Sunderland Ladies pulled off a stunning 4-0 win against FA WSL1 side Everton yesterday.

The young midfielder was given a chance up front, with regular striker Beth Mead deployed on the wing. The other goal, in a game played on the artificial surface at Consett, came from Keira Ramshaw.

Durham Women, who – like Sunderland – will play in FA WSL2 this season, took on top division side Manchester City and were well beaten 7-0 at New Ferens Park.

City’s class shone from the start as they pressed the hosts back, with England striker Toni Duggan leading the way with a hat-trick.

Wearsiders Jill Scott and Steph Houghton were also on the scoresheet, alongside Betsy Hassett and Dannii Young.
