SEAHAM Red Star extended their lead in Ebac Northern League Division Two to five points with last night’s 2-0 victory at Hebburn Town, who would have gone fifth had they won.

Chris Smith headed into his own goal after just two minutes and Mark Collingwood’s side went further in front four minutes into the second period with a tap-in by Adam Johnston.

An only goal by Scott Heslop, who headed past goalkeeper Gareth Young after 65 minutes, proved sufficient for Chester le Street at Ryhope CW.

Heaton Stannington jumped three places to fifth-top, defeating Billingham Town when Brian Dodsworth was the only scorer in the 92nd minute.

In the 31st minute the Stann’s Lee Johnson and Billingham’s Harry Taylor were dismissed.

Team Northumbria, challenging for promotion, remain on course for a double after defeating Darlington RA in the Ernest Armstrong Memorial Cup. Ben Murdoch and Kane White scored in the second half.

* A crowd of 428 at The Brewery field saw Spennymoor Town clinch an added-time winner against Kendal Town in the Evo Stik League Division One North.

In first-half stoppage time Shane Henry fired Jason Ainsley’s side in front and following Jamie Colebourn’s 54th-minute equaliser, Joe Tait struck. Immediately the game was restarted, the referee blew the final whistle.
