SUNDERLAND RCA start their Ebac Northern League First Division campaign at Durham City, with Ross McNab, grandson of former Sunderland midfielder Jimmy, set to make his debut.
Stephen Callan and Jack Stannah are also named in the Meadow Park squad, as secretary Colin Wilson claims the season is going to be a learning curve for a young RCA squad.
City manager Ian Chandler, who spent more than 10 seasons with Whitley Bay and was involved in four FA Carlsberg Vase successes, is happy with his squad.
“We have good pool of players and a big plus is the fitness of Ryan McGorrigan and Callum Hope,” said Chandler.
“For me, it’s a new club, a new season, but the same expectations.”
Newly-promoted Jarrow Roofing have brought in six players with considerable experience for their return to the top flight.
Manager Richie McLoughlin has brought in Wayne Phillips and Alex White from Spennymoor Town, West Auckland pair John Campbell and Liam Henderson, John Wright (Heaton Stannington) and Ian Davison (Consett).
“Gradually, in pre-season, we started to pick it up and were looking good. It will be difficult at Ashington tomorrow, but we are all looking forward to a new challenge,” said McLoughlin, who has been with the club he founded for more than three decades.
