Hixon is full of confidence for his young side

SUNDERLAND RCA manager Neil Hixon is following the path of Sunderland boss Paolo di Canio in assembling a young, fit squad in preparation for the Ebac Northern League which kicks off on August 10.

“I brought in nine players and one thing’s for certain, we’ll be fit and raring to go,” enthused Hixon who is pleased with his team’s pre-season preparations.

The newcomers are Liam Clough, John Jury and Chris Dodds from Team Northumnbria, Jack Lilley (Gateshead), Stuart Thompson (Esh Winning), Callum Brown (Norton and Stockton Ancients), Conor Winter (Durham City) and Richard Logan, who has returned to the club from a two-year absence.

In addition, former Harltepool player Kyle Morris has also moved to Meadow Park, but RCA are awaiting international clearance since he’s been playing in America.

“We couldn’t wish for a more difficult start to the season. We are away to West Auckland Town on the opening day and then meet Spennymoor Town twice, first in the FA Cup and then in the League.

“But I’ve put together a young squad and I’m confident we’ll enjoy a good season” added Hixon ahead of tomorrow’s attractive friendly with a Hartlepool Select II at Meadow Park, kick off 3pm.
