Gash cashes in for RCA

SUNDERLAND RCA were twice pegged back by hosts Norton and Stockton Ancients before winning Saturday’s friendly by the odd goal in five.

Kyle Morris was an early marksman for Neil Hixon’s RCA side, but Rocky Andrews quickly levelled. Andy Brown restored the visitors’ advantage before the break only for Nicky Martin to revive Norton with his 54th-minute strike.

With time running out, Vinny Gash beat Norton goalkeeper Anthony Lowerson for the winner.

Birtley Town gave Dunston UTS a good game before losing 3-1, but it wasn’t until the last couple of minutes that the First Division Tynesiders could relax.

Lewis Teasdale and Michael Dixon were on target in the opening half, but Birtley rallied, with Callum Hope reducing the deficit. In the closing stages, Birtley pressed for an equaliser but left the way open for Stephen Preen to seal their fate.

Chester-le-Street travelled to Carlisle North End and went down 2-1, with Anthony Lee grabbing the consolation.
