WASHINGTON moved off the bottom of the Ebac Northern League Division Two and consigned Ryton and Crawcrook Albion to the basement when they enjoyed a four-goal romp against their rivals in distress.
James Fairley had a hand in three of the goals. He set up Anthony Ross for the opener and after Paul Wardle made it two, Fairley bagged a brace.
It was only Washington’s second win, while Ryton have just one success to their credit and now trail the Newtowners by three points.
Following an indifferent start to the season, Chester-le-Street have hit form and victory over Brandon United was their fourth on the bounce. Tony Healer scored the only goal 11 minutes from time when he headed home.
Esh Winning are third from the bottom following their defeat by Willington, who have gradually found their feet after gaining promotion from the Wearside League.
Aidan Goodey and Adam Pinkney were the Hall Lane club’s scorers. With only one goal separating the teams, Esh had Scott Kelly sent off.
