Ex-Sunderland forward Lynch and former Boro man Fowler boost Durham City’s squad

Former Sunderland forward Craig Lynch and ex-Middlesbrough midfielder Jake Fowler have joined Northern League Division One club Durham City.

Lynch, who has had stints at Hartlepool United Blyth Spartans since leaving the Stadium of Light, and former England Under-18 midfielder Fowler, from Sunderland, significantly bolster boss Ian Chandler’s squad for the coming season, adding to the arrivals of Washington’s James Fairley and Billingham Synthonia midfielder Daniel Dillon.

Striker Callum Patton, impressive up front last season, and Ross Wilkinson, voted the supporters’ player of the year last term, are staying on.

Reece Noble, Jordan Harkess and Callum Hope have departed New Ferens Park. Johnny Davis has left City for Shildon, while skipper Arjun Purewal has rejoined former club Bishop Auckland, who have also landed lively Consett winger Adam Nicholls.

Second Division South Shields have snapped up former Hartlepool United forward David Foley, following a stint in America.

Hebburn Town have managed to hold on to former Seaham Red Star striker Channon North.
