Easington proving difficult to catch in the Wearside League

EASINGTON Colliery extended their lead at the top of the Wearside League to nine points when they hit Houghton Town for six at Welfare Park last night.

It was not until the 42nd minute that Chris Tarn delivered a clinical finish from the edge of the penalty area but once David Doughty doubled the lead after 62 minutes, the floodgates opened.

Tarn made it three from close range before Houghton leaked three goals in five minutes just before the end.

John Harrison beat Dean Caris, who played for Easington earlier in the season, Anthony Ross celebrated his debut scoring Easington’s fifth and Andy Hall completed the rout.

Houghton have conceded 101 goals to become the first side to leak three figures.
