Seaham Red Star eased past Ryton and Crawcrook Albion in the preliminary round of the Durham Challenge Cup last night.

Both their goals came in the opening 14 minutes, with Robbie Bird and Liam McBryde making the visitors’ First Division class tell.

Lowly Division Two side Esh Winning worked hard throughout in a brave display as they went down 2-0 at First Division Bishop Auckland, with Kyle Davis (pen) and Adam Nichols the scorers.

Dylan Elliott was the hero for Hartlepool United’s young side, hitting a second-half hat-trick in last night’s 4-2 win at Darlington RA, after Ebby Nelson-Addy cancelled out the Northern League side’s opener.
