Durham Sunday League: Heartbreaking national exit for Hetton Lyons

HETTON Lyons Cricket Club must rouse themselves for tomorrow’s Durham Sunday Cup quarter-final at Norton George & Dragon, following a heartbreaking exit from the FA Sunday Cup.

Lyons turned on the style to lead Chapeltown Fforde Grene 3-0 at Spennymoor last week, with Conor Winter, Craig Ellison and Craig Price on target and a quarter-final place looking to be in their grasp.

But the Leeds side sensationally rallied to force extra time with efforts from Dempsey Smith, Joel Hughes and Daniel Freeman, then stormed 7-3 ahead, courtesy of Dan Sheriffe, Smith, Hughes and Chris Hitchings, before Price hit a late consolation for a devastated home side reduced to 10 men.

Pelton RAOB showed their Premier class with a 9-0 Ramside Hall Hotel Cup Winners’ Cup semi-final rout of Ouston Cherry Tree.

Luke Kerry and star man Craig Mickle hit four goals apiece, with sub Kevin Dixon also notching. Josh Scott stood out for Tree.
