Dunston strike late to rock Hixon’s men

SUNDERLAND RCA suffered a third home Ebac Northern League First Division defeat in eight days as Dunston UTS snatched a winner four minutes into stoppage time on Saturday, writes MALCOLM PRATT.

With a goalless draw looking a certainty, after both sides had failed to create many scoring opportunities, up popped Dale Burrell to stab the ball past keeper Peter Jameson deep into added time.

UTS were on top in the first 15 minutes, but Neil Hixon’s side gradually hit back. Dunston went nearest to scoring when Michael Dixon’s header was cleared off the line by Aaron Brown.

RCA appealed in vain for a penalty on 74 minutes. They face a tricky trip to Celtic Nation tomorrow.

Spennymoor Town ruthlessly crushed Crook Town 5-0 before a crowd of 594 at the Brewery Field.

Jason Ainsley’s side played some marvellous attacking football and had the visitors pegged back in their own half for long periods.

Three goals in the first 23 minutes from Keith Graydon, Anthony Peacock and Gavin Cogdon just about sealed Crook’s fate. Summer signing Liam Henderson added a second-half brace.

Whitley Bay, rallying after a poor start to the campaign, ended Bishop Auckland’s unbeaten record with a 4-1 win in front of a 400-plus Hillheads crowd.

Paul Chow (2), Chris Fawcett and Ashley Davis netted before Danny Brunskill responded.

Steven Anderson’s hat-trick and a brace from ex-Sunderland reserve Shaun Taylor hurried Morpeth Town to a 7-2 rout of Team Northumbria.
