NORTH Shields’ championship hopes just about ended when they lost at the weekend, but they are still in with a chance of ending runners-up in the Ebac Northern League First Division.
The Robins, heading for Wembley in the FA Vase final next month, got back to winning ways last night as they defeated Morpeth Town in a six-goal thriller at the Daren Persson Stadium.
Denver Morris, with a brace, Dean Walker and Dean Holmes were the Robins’ marksmen, with Ben Sayer and Jordan Fry on target for the visitors.
Either Marske United or Shildon will win the title and, depending on Shildon’s results and those of North Shields, the Robins could end second.
Marske have finished their season on 90 points, with Shildon five behind but with two games to play – at home to Durham City on Saturday and away to Bedlington Trriers on Wednesday.
North Shields finish off with away games at Sunderland RCA (Saturday) and Celtic Nation (Tuesday) before starting fully focusing on their May 9 Wembley test against Glossop North End.
