Belford House hope to finish season in style

THE curtain comes down on the Wearside League season tonight when Ashbrooke Belford House aim to defeat Boldon CA at Silksworth and finish in the top half of the table.

Following an indifferent campaign, Tommy Dobbing’s side has come good in recent weeks and a win in their final game would enable them to leapfrog Peterlee Town into 10th place.

“It’s been a bit of a topsy turvey season, but the lads have picked up some good results recently. We’ll be going all out for the three points tonight and if we succeed we’ll finish equal on points with Peterlee and ninth placed Boldon CA,” said Dobbing.

Kenny Taylor, Mark Green and Martin Deacon are ruled out, but Kyle Anderson, Stuart Burton, Michael Melmoe and Adam Drayton come into the plans of Dobbing.

Coxhoe Athletic, who have finished bottom, make the long journey to Cleator Moor Celtic in the other fixture.

John Ward, meanwhile, has severed his 12-year connection with Hartlepool where, in recent seasons, he was chairman.

“The committee took the decision to sack manager Chris Lax and this was the last straw” said Ward.
