LUKE Williams has praised the man-management skills of his Hartlepool United boss Colin Cooper who encouraged his players to enjoy their football.

The on-loan 20-year-old insists the Pools camp are full of confidence and says there is no reason why his new team-mates cannot go on a winning run.

Williams is enjoying his one-month loan at Victoria Park from neighbours Middlesbrough and says a big reason behind is working with Cooper and assistant Craig Hignett every day at Maiden Castle, in Durham.

The forward worked alongside former Middlesbrough coach Cooper at Boro’s Rockcliffe Park HQ and he is full of praise for the management style of the former England international.

“I have worked with Coops before and he is great for me,” said Williams.

“He gives you all the confidence you need, tells you to keep playing how you are playing and to enjoy yourself, which is the most important thing.

“That is great and I have really enjoyed working with the gaffer and Higgy.

“The pair of them do man-management really well, they talk to you a lot and make you feel good around the place and enjoy what you are doing.”

Modest Williams said he has been pleased with his own form, but he is desperate to add goals to his creative flair play in the final third.

The highly-rated forward added: “I am pleased with my own performances but I wish I could have got a few goals as well as continuing to make chances for the other players.

“I have played the number 10 role a lot growing up, in a few first team games playing in the hole.

“It is one I really enjoy playing because you get a lot of the ball, pick it up in dangerous positions and look to hurt the opponents.

Williams, an England youth international capped at U17, U18 and U19 level, also insists Pools are fully capable of going on a winning run, provided they can start hitting the back of the net.

He said: “That little bit of extra quality in the final third, like the gaffer talks about, is what we need and once we have got that we will keep rolling and win more games.

“Confidence is massive for us and we can’t keep playing as well as we have been without winning games.

“Once we keep playing well and winning games it will roll on and we can get two, three wins on the bounce and go from there.”
