HARTLEPOOL United have made wholesale changes for tonight’s second round Johnstone’s Paint Trophy match against Sheffield United at Victoria Park.
Caretaker bosses Sam Collins and Stephen Pears have handed Kieran Green his senior debut, while Dan Jones, Michael Woods, Lewis Hawkins also come into the side.
It is Pools’ first match since former manager Colin Cooper resigned within minutes of the 3-0 defeat to Carlisle United on Saturday.
Neil Austin will partner on-loan Sunderland defender Scott Harrison in the centre of defence, with young Jones at left-back.
Marlon Harewood and Matthew Bates do not make the squad for Pools tonight (KO 7pm).
Darren Holden and Brad Walker drop down to the bench for the match, with just five substitutes allowed for each side in the JPT.
Nigel Clough’s team lines up in a 4-4-2 formation with 11 changes from their 3-2 defeat at Chesterfield at the weekend.
Clough took the unusual step of naming his side 24-hours before kick-off.
If the scores are level at full-time it will go straight to penalties, without the need for extra-time.
