CARETAKER boss Sam Collins said it was “really disappointing” to see his Hartlepool United side lose the game to Burton Albion the way they did.
The Brewers beat bottom-side Pools 4-0 at the Pirelli Stadium, with poor errors again costing Pools dear.
Alex MacDonald gave the home side the lead in the 45th minute, curling in a shot from the edge of the penalty area.
Just 22 seconds after the re-start and MacDonald had his second, capitalising on some awful Pools defending.
Shane Cansdell-Sherriff and Stuart Beavon completed the rout.
Collins said: “I am really disappointed to lose the game the way we did.
“For 44 minutes we had done okay but then to give a stupid goal away before half-time and then to come back in the second and give that away after 20-odd seconds, it was always going to be hard to come back from.
“We had spoken about being hard to beat and staying in games as long as possible.
“The situation we are in is hard and we have to stay in games for longer and when chances come our way take them.
“It is really disappointing.”
Collins is currently in caretaker charge for a second time this season, although ex-Tranmere Rovers Ronnie Moore was watching on from the stands.
Moore is looking for a route back into management and must now be considered favourite for the job.
Collins added: “I am told to look after things for as long as possible.
“That is what I intend to do.”
