RONNIE Moore is looking to bring in up to nine new players at Hartlepool United following his summer cull.
The Pools boss will sit down with chairman Ken Hodcroft tomorrow to finalise the club’s retained list before informing the squad who will be staying.
We need probably two experienced centre-backs in, but where are we getting them from on our budget?
Winger Jack Compton has already left as Moore looks to refresh the squad and focus on the club’s younger players.
Loan players Jordan Hugill and Aaron Tshibola have returned to Preston and Reading respectively, while winger Jordan Jones is back at Middlesbrough.
Marvin Morgan returns to Plymouth, while defender David Mirfin is back with Scunthorpe.
Moore is looking to use the wages from the outgoing experienced players to bring in players over the summer months.
Marlon Harewood and defender Stuart Parnaby are among the highest earners facing the axe, while Matthew Bates could also have played his final game.
“We need eight or nine in, for sure,” said Moore. Most of the lads we keep will be the young lads and we will use the money from the experienced lads to try and strengthen the squad with a bit of pace and endeavour.
“We need probably two experienced centre-backs in, but where are we getting them from on our budget? There’s a lot of wheeling and dealing to be done.”
Pools finished third bottom in League Two after surviving the drop with a game to spare. It looked like the season was going to end in defeat after Carlisle led 3-0 at half-time in front of 2,000 travelling fans, many in fancy dress reggae gear.
But a tremendous fight back brought two goals from Hugill and one cracker from Michael Duckworth to claim an unlikely point.
