FORMER Newcastle striker Lomana Lua Lua has rejected the chance to join Hartlepool United, writes CRAIG HOPE.
Boss Mick Wadsworth tried to persuade the 30-year-old free agent – whom he worked with at Colchester and Newcastle – to join Pools following his release from Cypriots Omonia Nicosia.
LuaLua, though, is still hopeful of winning a deal on the continent and is thought to be mulling over a number of offers.
Wadsworth explained: “I’ve spoken to Lomana a lot and I definitely tried to sign him. We were all excited by it, but we knew it was difficult.
“We discussed it and it would have been a fantastic signing, but he’s not ready to come back here to England just yet.
“He’s enjoying playing in Europe. He’s had a great career and has got a few years left in him yet.”
However, Wadsworth has not ruled out a move for the Congolese international at some point down the line and believes their close friendship could see him one day wind up at Victoria Park.
