JOHN Hughes believes his Hartlepool United players have restored “pride” in their football club.
Pools were backed by nearly 400 supporters at Scunthorpe United on Saturday as they made it six matches unbeaten courtesy of a 2-1 victory.
Hughes’ side have now amassed 14 points from the last 18 on offer and will be bidding to close February without defeat when Crewe Alexandra come to Victoria Park tomorrow night.
The Scot says he is picking up positive vibes around the town.
“You can see the supporters are starting to believe and they have a bit of pride back in their club,” Hughes said.
“One guy said to me last week, ‘thanks for giving me my club back’, that meant so much to me.
“A football club is nothing without its supporters and they were a different class on Saturday.
The weekend win was achieved thanks to pair of first-half goals from James Poole and Jonathan Franks.
The Iron did pull one back with 12 minutes left on the clock, but Pools held out to move to within eight points of safety.
John Hughes has confirmed that Hartlepool United will not be signing former Newcastle United pair Dennis Knight and Michael Riley.
Hughes has revealed that the Football League blocked the signings as Pools are currently spending the maximum 65 per cent of their turnover on players’ wages.
