Hartlepool United’s Cooper wants loan aces long-term

Have your say

HARTLEPOOL United boss Colin Cooper is “chuffed to bits” with the contribution of loan stars Matty Dolan and Christian Burgess – and would love to have them available all season, writes RICHARD MENNEAR.

The pair are both on-loan from managerless Middlesbrough and Cooper hopes to extend midfielder Dolan’s loan when it expires at the end of next week.

Dolan scored his first goal for Pools in Tuesday’s 3-1 win over AFC Wimbledon, while Burgess, 22, has been a rock in central defence alongside Jack Baldwin.

Cooper said: “They are justifying the reasons I wanted them here – they are both young players who are hungry to do well, who want to improve.

“To play in League Two football rather than development football, I think, is a big shot in the arm for the pair of them. I’m chuffed to bits with them and would love to have them here all season, but that won’t be my decision.

“I will try to keep them here for as long as possible, whoever comes in as the new manager at Middlesbrough, and if I’m able to do that then great. If not, then my job is to make sure I can work with what we have got and then try and add to it from a different place if Middlesbrough want those two players back.”
