Hartlepool United have completed their seventh summer signing - clinching a deal for promising youngster Peter Kioso.
Kioso, 18, is a product of MK Dons' youth system and has also spent time in the Southern Premier League with Dunstable.
But the full-back has now teamed up with Pools having been recommended to boss Matthew Bates by one of his contacts within the game.
Bates was able to cast his eye over Kioso during the early stages of pre-season training with the defender invited to join up with Pools' squad as they prepare for the new National League season.
And he has done enough to catch Bates' attention, with the Pools boss handing him a deal at Victoria Park.
Speaking to the club's official website, the manager said: “We’ve had Peter in since Monday after he was put to me by someone I trust in the game and I’ve been impressed.
“He’s only 18 coming up 19 but he’s fitted in with the lads during the week and has been one of the best trainers.
“Ideally, I wanted to see him in the game on Saturday but we played an 11 v 11 in training on Thursday and I just saw how good a player he was; he’s the right type, he can play anywhere across the back, brings balance and he’s a good age.
“He’s got a lot of improvement in him if he gets his head down. He seems to have a great attitude and he’s eager to learn so it’s going to be exciting to work him.”
Kioso is expected to play some part in Pools' pre-season friendly at Billingham Town tomorrow (midday kick-off) - a game in which Bates says every member of his first-team squad will be given some minutes.
The only players who are not expected to feature are Jack Munns and Aaron Cunningham who have picked up minor knocks.
