HARTLEPOOL United have signed Preston North End striker Jordan Hugill on loan after the departure of Ryan Bird.

The 22-year-old joined Pools this morning ahead of Saturday’s game with Cambridge United at Victoria Park.

Hugill, who will be at Victoria Park until the end of the season, has spent the past month on loan at Tranmere Rovers – but returned to his parent club earlier this week.

With Bird being recalled by Cambridge United, Pools boss Ronnie Moore moved quickly to snap up Hugill once he heard of his availability.

The Middlesbrough-born forward played for Seaham Red Star, Consett, Whitby Town and Marske United before signing professionally with Port Vale in 2013.

Hugill spent a season with the Vale Park outfit before being snapped up by Preston North End in June 2014.

He will wear squad number 24 and will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s match, subject to Football League clearance.
