Fortune favours Colin Nish

TWO-GOAL hero Colin Nish admits the relief of his fortunate first gave him the belief to bag his nonchalant second during Saturday’s 3-0 win for Hartlepool United over Bury, writes Craig Hope.

The Edinburgh-born frontman had gone five matches without troubling the scorers since opening his Pools account during last month’s 1-1 home draw with Walsall.

But Nish was at the double against the Shakers, his confidence-boosting first arriving in the 51st minute when he reacted quickest to a loose ball inside the area before smashing home in uncompromising fashion from close range.

Buoyed by that blast, the former Hibernian ace then robbed rookie centre-back Andrai Jones before racing through and coolly slotting beyond Sunderland loanee Trevor Carson 16 minutes from the end.

Nish had earlier assisted Nobby Solano in his 34th-minute opener.

And a delighted Nish said: “The first one for me was a bit fortunate.

“I’ve tried to hit it across the defender but it came in at an awkward height and ricocheted off the both of us.

“I was first to get there and pushed it in and I think I needed that.

“The second one came from the confidence of scoring the first one. Confidence makes a big difference and it comes with scoring goals.”
