Dolan deal the perfect lift for Hartlepool United

Have your say

MATTY Dolan’s loan move to Hartlepool United has given boss Colin Cooper a very welcome selection headache, admits assistant Craig Hignett, writes CHRIS BELL.

The 20-year-old signed a month-long deal from Middlesbrough yesterday and will make his debut in Saturday’s home League Two game against Fleetwood Town.

Exactly where Dolan will be deployed is an issue that Cooper and Hignett will ponder over the coming days.

With teen sensation Bradley Walker having teamed up well with Simon Walton in the middle of the park in recent matches, Cooper is reluctant to drop either and could instead opt for a three-man midfield.

Hignett said: “We’ll have to see (where he plays). He gives us options.

“Simon Walton and Bradley Walker have done exceptionally well in the last few games so it’s not going to be a shoo-in that Matty plays but he will be involved on Saturday.

“Midfield is his spot and we might play him and Simon together.

“That will allow us to release Bradley to go a little bit further forward.

“We might play three in midfield. We will have a look at everything.”

Hignett added: “Matty’s been on our radar for a long while so it’s pleasing that he’s signed – he’s a quality footballer who will hopefully up the standard at the club.

“He’s the type of player who we are trying to bring into the club.

“It’s just a month for now and then we’ll see what happens after that.”
