Bartlett: Let’s stay perfect!

Have your say

Adam Bartlett says Hartlepool United will approach Saturday’s League Two trip to York City with no fears after a “perfect start” to the season.

Bartlett – and Pools – have had a dream first few days, with back-to-back wins over Morecambe, in the league, and Fleetwood, in the Capital One Cup.

And Bartlett, with two clean sheets behind him, says Pools’ new-look side must build on what they have produced so far.

“It’s going to be a tough game,” said the ex-Gateshead keeper. “It’s obviously a derby game for us and it’s going to be a great atmosphere.

“We’ve made a perfect start, so we’re going to go there full of confidence and look to put on similar performances as we have in the first two games.

“We’ll look to work hard as a team and come away from York with the three points as well.”

While York were brushed aside with ease at Wycombe in League Two, they showed their ability and nerve to oust Bradford City from the Capita One Cup on Tuesday night.

Former Pools skipper Scott Flinders saved two penalties as York despatched the Bantams 4-2 on spot-kicks after the tie ended 2-2.

But Pools will not lie down for the Minstermen, something they refused to do at League One Fleetwood.

Bartlett says the team spirit, fostered over pre-season and carried into the campaign proper, cannot be over-looked.

“It has been great ever since we first went to the army camp,” said the 29-year-old, who has taken the goalie gloves in place of the injured first-choice Trevor Carson.

“That camp was good for the unit to be able to knit together.

“It was a tough battle for those four days but we were away and working and being together as a group.

“We are all in it together, whether it’s Trevor or me in goal or Rakish [Bingham] or Rhys [Oates] up front.

“If Trevor was playing on Tuesday night, the thing I’d want most would be for him to keep a clean sheet and the team to win.

“I’m sure Trev was sat at home thinking the same thing.

“That’s the mentallity we are going to have to have if we are to do do anything this season.

“We’ve all got to be pushing in the right direction and so far we are.”
