Gateshead react as vice-chairman Trevor Clark steps down

Gateshead have confirmed that Trevor Clark is to leave his role as vice chairman of the club.

The local businessman was a key part of the supporter-led consortium that hauled the club back from the brink of going under twelve months ago in the aftermath of the disastrous reign of former owner Dr Ranjan Varghese.

Once the takeover was complete, Clark was installed as the club’s new vice chairman and took a lead role in the day-to-day activities at the International Stadium.

He oversaw the formation of the Gateshead Football Club Foundation and the club have announced that Clark will continue his involvement with the Foundation, as well as remaining as an active shareholder.

A club statement released on Friday morning read: “Trevor Clark is to step down as Vice Chairman of Gateshead Football Club with immediate effect.

“Trevor took up the role in May 2019 during a period of change on Tyneside, playing a significant part in securing the club’s future.

“Despite relinquishing his role as Vice Chairman, he will remain an active shareholder in addition to retaining his involvement with Gateshead Football Club Foundation.

“Remaining an avid supporter, Trevor wishes to place on record his thanks to Chairman, Neil Pinkerton, and offer his best wishes to everyone connected to the club for their tremendous support in what has been an eventful 12 months.”

The Echo understands that the club have identified a replacement for Clark and could announcement an appointment within the next fortnight.
