Early pressure paid off – Alan Pardew

Have your say

NEWCASTLE manager Alan Pardew felt the early pressure from his side told, and gave them an almost unstoppable momentum.

“I think we wanted to put a performance in that put pressure on Wolves, and that pressure told,” Pardew said.

“We kept running at them and kept putting pressure on them. Shola Ameobi dominated the two centre-halves.

“We just got a little bit nervous at 3-1 when they scored, which we were disappointed with, and once we saw that 10 minutes out, the game was won. The last goal was a bit of a showboat goal. Jonas was terrific.

“He put great cover on Ferguson, and deserved his goal.

“Our best players showed up, big style. It was a really great day for Newcastle United.

“Not only the team played well, but my staff have been brilliant this week. We had a lot of medical problems, but we managed to patch people up, and get over the line.”
