Durham Sunday League: Park Inn climb off the bottom in style

In one of only two games to get the green light last weekend, Park Inn moved off the bottom of the table, after securing only their second league win.

Park Inn deserved the victory aghainst a Brancepeth side who played some good football but could not find the killer ball in the final third.

Man of the match Stephen Wood, Damien Baston, Paul Corlett and sub Andrew Jacques did the damage for the home side, with Anthony Bussey on target for the visitors.

Adam Purvis shone for Brancepeth.

Park Inn moved level with Ferryhill Dynamoes, but have played three games more than them, and new bottom club Houghton Chilton Lodge, who are a point behind.

Durham County got the better of Chester Garden Farm, winning 4-0 in a well-fought Third Division game between two disciplined sides.

Victory – a ninth in 10 league outings – took them to the top of the table, above former front-runners Houghton, with three games still in hand.

County’s slick passing proved the difference between the sides, with Jack Carr, star man Craig Mountain, Robson Brown and Joe Jenkinson all on target for the hosts.

Thomas Maddison stood out in a first league defeat of the campaign for mid-table Garden Farm, who are the only side to have played on each of the first three weekends of the new year.
