DURHAM City failed to complete a treble over Prescot Cables, who were good value for a 3-1 victory in Saturday’s Evo-Stik League Division One North game at New Ferens Park, writes Malcolm Pratt.
Amar Purewal went close before City opened the scoring on 13 minutes.
Prescot goalkeeper Stephen Longrigg punched clear and Stephen Thompson drove the rebound in off the near post.
However, City were pegged back on 23 minutes. A poor clearance gifted Joe Gibiliru an open goal and he made no mistake.
Only a magnificent point-blank save by James Winter from Stephen Tames kept the scores level, but the visitors went in front on 35 minutes.
James McCulloch found himself unmarked from a Gibiliru corner and picked his spot in front of goal.
Winter then denied Gibiliru and although they had the wind behind them in the second half, Durham went two goals down as Tames comfortably beat Winter.
Dan Madden did force Longrigg into a good save and another effort was deflected for a corner, but once again Dickie Ord’s side were left to rue missed chances.
