Durham City ease past Frickley Athletic in the Evo-Stik League Challenge Cup

DURHAM City produced an excellent performance which earned them a 2-0 victory over Premier side Frickley Athletic in the third round of the Evo-Stik League Challenge Cup last night, writes MALCOLM PRATT.

City were never overawed by their Premier Division visitors, who twice defeated Durham last season.

Goalkeeper Lewis Graham was called into action early on but after initially having to defend, City came more into the game.

Just before the interval, former Sunderland player David Dowson was just wide of the post following an excellent move between Stephenson and Stephen Thompson.

In the 49th minute the impressive Amar Purewal broke the deadlock. He collected a splendid pass from Mark Batey and went on to beat Ben Simpson.

A second goal six minutes from time eased the pressure. Amar Purewal was the provider and Dowson made no mistake.

City now host Bradford Park Avenue in the Fourth Round.
