Durham Alliance Combination League: Happy 21st as New Westlea break duck at long last

At the 21st attempt, New Westlea pipped Guide Post 3-2 away from home to move off the bottom of the table.

Man of the match Stephen Devlin was the hero for the visitors, striking twice, with Ryan Morse also on target.

Victory took Westlead three points clear of the new bottom club, Washington AFC, and two behind Sunderland University.

Star man Carl Young and Reece Young replied for Guide Post.

Hall Farm were held to a 3-3 draw by Brandon United Development in an entertaining clash – and slipped to sixth place as a result.

Dean Smith, star man Martin Hope and sub Brian Carter all struck for Hall Farm, with Robson Brown, star man Adam Turnham and Chris Blakelock replying.

Blackhill & Ebchester squeezed home 3-2 away to Farringdon Detached, courtesy of goals from Stephen Agnew (2) and Richy Parkin.

Dan Parker stood out for Blackhill.

Sherburn Village WMC handed out a 4-1 beating to visitors Wheatley Hill WMC, moving them up to fifth place.

Two-goal Glenn Hendrix netted again to inspire Sherburn, backed by strikes from Jamie Taylor and Alex Hird. Steven Turnbull was star man. Peter Crawford netted for Wheatley.

League leaders Durham City Reserves exited the League Challenge Cup with a 5-2 preliminary round defeat at Redcar Town.

Michael Webster and sub Kieron McWaters hit City’s goals, but on-song Redcar eased through thanks to efforts from Stuart Poulter, Jamie Lee, Dale Mendum and two-goal sub Ryan Bennions.

In the first round of the same competition, Coundon & Leeholme secured a 2-1 victory at Hartlepool Reserves, despite having Wayne Whitfield sent off.

Star man Paul Bailes and Stephen Butler grabbed the crucial goals for Coundon, with Pool responding thanks to an own goal.

Killingworth YPC romped to a 9-0 victory at Wallsend Town, with Lee Isbister hitting five goals. Konner Lamb and Michael Bowman both struck twice.

On Monday, Farringdon Detached crashed 8-3 at Blackhill & Ebchester, with Richy Parkin (4), Michael Hannant (2), Stephen Agnew and Jonny Parkin doing the damage.

Guide Post were walloped 12-0 at Redcar Town, who moved 10 points behind leaders Durham City Reserves with four games in hand.
