The attacker joined Sunderland on loan from the Robins during the Wearsiders’ second season in League One, signing in the January of the 2018-29 campaign under Phil Parkinson.

However, Semenyo failed to make an impact at the Stadium of Light and was limited to just seven league appearances for the Black Cats.

Now, a report by Football League World state that Sunderland’s North East and Championship rivals Middlesbrough have made enquiries about the 22-year-old.

Boro are said to be in search of three new attackers with Chris Wilder looking to bolster the club’s squad ahead of a promotion push this campaign following missing out on the play-offs at the end of the 2021-22 season.
