ASHBROOKE Belford House failed to make it into the top half of the Wearside League when they were held to a draw by Boldon CA on the final night of the season, writes Malcolm Pratt.

Lee Picton fired the South Tynesiders into a 62nd-minute lead and 10 minutes from time Michael Charlton delivered a clinical volley to earn Tommy Dobbing’s side a point.

Ashbrooke finish 11th while Coxhoe Athletic are the wooden spoonists. They signed off with a 3-0 defeat at Cleator Moor Celtic whose marksmen were Kevin Holliday, Robert Fowler and Stefan Scott.

Team Northumbria became the first STL Northern League Second Division side in 25 years to win both the championship and the Brooks Mileson Memorial Cup, which is competed for by all 44 clubs from both divisions.

They thumped First Division runners-up West Auckland Town 4-1 despite the visitors scoring first through Elliott Gardner.

Robert Cavanagh and Peter Watling then fired Team in front and a further blow to West was the dismissal of Stuart Banks in the 39th minute.

Northumbria made the numerical advantage count and late goals from Gavin Donaghue and Mike Fenwick earned them a comprehensive victory.

The Trophy was presented to captain Gavin Donaghue by STL Northern League chairman Mike Amos.

West Auckland have ended the season without a trophy. After finishing runners-up to First Division champions Spennymoor Town they were defeated by Dunston UTS in the FA Carlsberg Vase Final before again losing last night.
