Steel shows mettle in Durham U15s’ success

DURHAM County Under-15s enjoyed a magnificent 113-run friendly win over Cleveland at Stockton.

Durham got off to a bad start with both openers out for ducks, but Durham City player Scott Steel, in at four, did the damage, hitting 18 fours from 142 balls to finish on a magnificent 148.

Durham, helped by Edward Hurst’s 28 and Jamie Daas’s 31 not out, finished on 239-5 from their 50 overs.

In reply, Tom Hewison top-scored for Cleveland, scoring 34, backed by 25 from wicketkeeper Robbie Gratton, but they were all out for 126.

Piers Davison was the star bowler, bagging 4-24 from 7.5 overs, while Liam Burgess bagged 2-23.

* Durham U15 Women eased to a 10-wicket win over Northumberland at Willington.

Amy Hearn’s 2-5 helped Durham restrict their visitors to 35-7 in their 10 overs before Helen Fenby (24no) and Bethany Walker steered Durham home in 4.5 overs,
