Newtowners too strong for Sunderland youngsters

WASHINGTON enjoyed a 124-run victory over Sunderland in the Durham Cricket Board U13s Central Division, .

Washington’s top three batters retired, with Matthew Brown, Jovan Singh and Finn Hebron all scoring 30. Tom Bainbridge was the only Sunderland player to bag a wicket.

The Ashbrooke youngsters were then bowled out for only 45, with Walmsley (14) top-scoring. Matthew Richardson was the pick of the bowlers, snatching four wickets for one run, while Thomas Lander took 4-7.

Sacriston narrowly held on to beat Eppleton by eight runs. Sol Bell (31no) and Callum Dodds (30no) led Sacriston to 128-2, with Josh Hutchinson grabbing both wickets.

Eppleton made a great start to reach 70-1, Layla Tipton (31no) and Jake Pratt (30no) shining before retiring, but the run-rate slowed despite 18 from Ryan Greenwood. Ellis Horner (2-6) and Elliot Hannon (2-12) struck for Sacriston.
