Layla leads the way as Durham U15 Women outgun Derbyshire

Durham U15 Women secured a three-wicket win over Derbyshire in the County Championship A Division Group One.

Jessica Woolston grabbed 3-20 as Derbyshire made 163-7 in 32 overs. Layla Tipton then stole the show with seven fours in a fine knock of 48 to lead Durham home on 164-7, with five balls to spare.

Woolston (29), Hollie Forsyth (24) and Bailey Wanless (16) offered good support.

Durham’s game against Lancashire was abandoned after the visitors posted 173-8 in 40 overs. Maria Stamp, Ella Tomys and Tipton all struck twice.

Durham Women suffered a 53-run defeat to Wales in their opening County Championship T20 Division Two clash at Usk.

Lauren Parfitt’s 74 led Wales to 151-4, with Bethany Walker taking two wickets. Durham then struggled to 98-8 in reply, with Hayley Falla (18) and Becky Glen (17) their top scorers.

Durham’s clash with Surrey was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
