Sunderland Under-15s secured their first win of the season, upsetting a strong Hetton Lyons team in the Durham Cricket Board’s Central Division Ken Ferguson Cup.
The Ashbrooke lads posted 95-4 as Sam Brigham hit an unbeaten 51, backed by 16 from Luke Laws. Harry Walker grabbed two wickets for Lyons, but they struggled in their reply, collapsing to 29 all out as only Thomas James (10) reached double figures.
Joseph Stuart bagged 4-7, while Sam Brigham (2-16) and Luke Laws (2-4) also impressed.
Washington (144-6) progressed to the semi-finals with an 85-run victory over Burnmoor. Opener Matthew Brown retired on 51 for Washington, supported by Finn Hebron (33) and Jovan Singh (27).
Nick Woolaston bagged 2-10 for Moor, who managed only 59 in reply, Rowell (17) and Aidan Stephenson (15) top-scoring.
In the U18s, Easington overcame Horden by seven wickets in the South East Division’s W.A. Bennett Cup. Josh Miller (31), Evan Roberts (24) and Will Iceton (23) led Horden to 103-2, but Marcus Brown’s brilliant, unbeaten 52, backed by Atherton (24), helped Easington home.
Kirtley’s fantastic knock of 97 not out guided Ryhope to a match-winning 172-4, supported by Tomlin (35), before Castle Eden fell short on 86-4, despite Ball’s 41 and 24 from Thomas Gorham.
Eppleton outgunned Washington by 75 runs in the U11s, with Jake Pratt hitting 24 runs for Lyons and picking up seven wickets for one run.
