Jack Johnson’s half-century helps Sunderland Under-18s into joint top spot

Sunderland rose to second place in the Durham Cricket Board Under-18 League’s Second Division, after a 52-run defeat of Marsden.

The Ashbrooke lads piled up 146-3 in 20 overs, with Jack Johnson’s half-century (52, with eight fours), backed by Joseph Stuart (34), Robbie Potts (30) and Callum Hutchinson (16no), with Zack Curry taking 2-33.

Curry (45no) and Daniel Price (28) helped Marsden to 94-4 in reply, with Hutchinson grabbing 2-21.

Sunderland are level on points with Castle Eden, who have a game in hand.

Ryhope ran out nine-wicket winners at home to Felling, who were dismissed for 53, with Josh Griffiths (13) top-scoring.

Robson plundered 3-4, with Sam Eaves taking 2-19 and Spencer White 2-11.

Jake Liddle (24), Owen Vaughan (18no) and Ricki Mendonca (14no) guided Ryhope home in nine overs.

Burnmoor conceded their trip to Whiteleas and Harton.

Boldon picked up their first win, at the second attempt, in Division One.

Ajay Singh Rai fired 42 not out, but Washington struggled to 85-7 as Ethan Elsworth bagged 3-9 and Kyle Groombridge took 2-17.

Nathan Hewitt (25) and Frankie Kilner (24) then inspired Boldon to a four-wicket success in 14.4 overs, with Daniel Bone grabbing 3-22 and Rai 2-19.
