Durham Women fall short of target

DURHAM fell short of a testing target as they went down by 26 runs to Nottinghamshire in the Women’s Under-17 County Championship.

Georgie Boyce’s 110, which included 14 fours, steered Notts to 253 all out in 43.1 overs at Welbeck CC.

Courtney Coulson (3-29), Caitlin Byrne (3-37) and Helen Fenby (2-30) impressed with the ball for Durham.

In reply, opener Fenby hit 83, with six boundaries, for the visitors, with good support from Coulson (80, with six fours and a six) and Laura Jones (28) but they could only reach 227-4 in 45 overs.

H Durham County U14 Boys lost by 21 runs to Yorkshire in their County Cup Group One tie.

Alec Drury (50) and James Wharton (44) led the Tykes to 121-5 in 40 overs, with Toby Lush, James Curry and Anthony Hodgson grabbing wickets.

Durham then found it tough going with the bat, managing just 100-7, with Nathan Hall (29) and Will Jewitt (28) top-scoring.
