Durham Under-15 girls find leaders Northumberland too storng in derby showdown

Durham Under-15 girls succumbed by 57 runs to leaders Northumberland in their County Championship Group One clash.

Northumberland posted 183-7 in 31 overs at Alnmouth and Lesbury, led by Ciara Boaden (38) and Harriet Robson (37).

Jess Woolston grabbed 2-19 for Durham, with Madeleine Atkinson taking 2-23. Ella Tomys, Lucy Hughes and Niamh Cranston also struck.

Durham struggled to 126 all out in their response, with opener Atkinson (32 off 61 balls) top-scoring.

Holly Spoors added 24, while Tomys and Woolston made 16 apiece, with Niamh Brennan bagging 3-12.

Durham Under-17 girls sustained their first defeat of the County Championship Group One campaign, going down by four wickets to Yorkshire at Richmondshire.

Layla Tipton hit 11 fours in a 74-ball 56 to lead Durham’s scoring in a 40-over total of 143-9, backed by Eppleton club-mate Hollie Forsyth (26) and Bailey Wanless (17). Georgia Draper snaffled 3-14 in eight overs.

Yorkshire responded strongly, to win in the 27th over, with Leah Dobson’s 70-ball 69, with 11 fours, leading the way.

Tipton took 2-38, with Madeline Atkinson, Ella Tomys and Lucy Dracup also striking.
