Durham triumph in Championship opener

EXCELLENT bowling by Durham’s four seamers carried them to a 48-run win against Somerset in their opening LV County Championship match at Chester-le-Street today.

On a warm, pleasant morning the visitors had the best conditions of the match in which to score the 139 they needed with eight wickets standing at the outset.

But despite an impressive innings of 72 from Craig Kieswetter, he lacked support and was in danger of being left stranded when he was ninth out, looking to farm the strike.

Kieswetter was bowled by Ben Stokes, who finished with three for 34 as Somerset were dismissed for 186 after resuming on 96 for two.
